Research interests: After my Bachelors in Biotechnology, I joined the Bioprocess Development team at Biocon Research Ltd, India where I was fortunate to join the team that developed world’s first anti-CD6 monoclonal antibody for the treatment of Psoriasis (FDA approved) and world’s first biosimilar of Herceptin for the treatment of Breast Cancer (FDA approved). My PhD research work was focused on engineering nitric oxide (NO) releasing platforms for biomedical device fabrication and tissue engineering applications. Post my PhD studies, I co-founded Innoveta Biomedical LLC, GA to commercialize these NO releasing platforms for developing antithrombotic and antibacterial medical devices. A growing interest in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine drew me to the Baker Lab. My postdoc work at Baker Lab involves angiogenesis on a chip, and stem cell organoid vascularization. These studies aim to investigate the influence of host angiogenesis and vascular integration on islet implant engraftment, maturation, and function to effectively develop hPSC-derived islet replacement therapies for treating type 1 Diabetes. The fundamentals of these studies are also useful in developing therapies for wound healing and cancer.
Outside of lab interests: Outside the lab, you can usually find me singing at the top of my lungs. I enjoy reading novels, a hobby that led me to write my upcoming novel, “A fool who ate his hunger”. I also love long road trips and trying new cuisines with friends.
